Pierre Grimes and the Noetic Society

Overview

The Noetic Society is a 501(c)(3) non-profit group with members in Southern California and around the world, who have been inspired to study Homer, Parmenides, the pre-Socratics, Plato, the neo-Platonists, and other perennial philosophers and mystics, not for academic reasons, but for personal spiritual growth. The society was founded by Pierre Grimes, PhD in 1967, and was incorporated in 1978.

Dialogue(s): parmenides Chapters: plg Sections: 133c,133d Attendees: Pierre, Barbara, JulieH, Regina, Eldar, JeffS Synopsis Today we stayed with P36 (Parmenides' 36th time to speak in the prologue) in Plato's Parmenides , and went over it to better understand what Parmenides is saying. The main work we did today was to focus on one (complicated, difficult) sentence before the "master argument" is started, and try to figure out what issues that sentence foreshadows. Pierre made an interesting discovery about esoteric doctrines at the Panathenaia. Jeff's Notes: 128E PG says he is puzzled by Zeno's response. Zeno is explaining why he is divulging this work.
